The museum is dedicated to the history of China and the museum also features exhibits on old computers. History The collection of artifacts and preparation of exhibits for the museum began in 2006. [1] The museum was opened on May 18, 2008. [2] In 2010, the museum was able to enter the top institutions with collections in Anhui Province. In 2011, the museum was designated as the first batch of Hefei volunteer service bases by the Hefei Municipal Committee of the Communist Youth League and the Volunteer Association. In 2012, the museum was designated as the fourth "Hefei Patriotism Education Base" by the municipal government and the City People's Party Committee. The museum is dedicated to exhibits on the country's independence and political development, the museum also features ethnographic exhibits on the communities that inhabit West Pokot County. History The building that houses the museum was a prison built in 1926 for the purpose of imprisoning people who escaped from their work. [1] The cells are roofed with iron sheets imported from Australia and placed by colonists. In this prison were imprisoned the Kapenguria Six for seven years, consisting of Jomo Kenyatta, Achieng' Oneko, Bildad Kaggia, Fred Kubai, Kung'u Karumba and Paul Ngei; a group of people who played a role in Kenya's independence.
