News - Google Street View cars are starting to travel to more parts of South America

After several sightings of Google Street View vehicles on social media, the company plans to release new photos of several South American countries, specifically subdivisions where they lack coverage or have outdated images.

Southern Peru

On May 15, 2024 it was reported that a car was updating part of the images of the city of Arequipa. Much of the city is with Gen 3 images taken from 2013 to 2015, this will be one of the first advances of Google Peru to properly update the main population centers of the country for some time.

Northern Peru

On May 24, local news outlet DTumbes Noticias Renovado reported that a gray Google Street View car was updating part of the town of Zarumilla, located on the border with Ecuador, where the last images of coverage of the area were from 2013.

Central Chile

In early May, it was reported that a car equipped with Gen 4 cameras is photographing part of the town of San Javier de Loncomilla, the last time Google photographed this area in Chile was in July 2023.

On May 13, a user confirmed seeing the Google Street View car driving through part of the coastal town of Quintero in the Valparaiso Region specifically north of Viña de Mar.

Southern Argentina

On May 13, the Google Street View car was spotted touring a town in southern Argentina, possibly Choele-choel in Rio Negro, based on infrastructure and comments on social networks, but cannot be confirmed exactly due to lack of spotting data. Although according to a local news site, La Comarca News, these vehicles were photographing part of the city of Viedma on May 12.

Additionally, several Google Street View cars have been returning to update some of the coverage around the city of Trelew in Chubut Province, where the last updates were made in 2019.

On May 24, the local news media LU17.com reported that a Google Street View car was photographing part of the streets of the city of Puerto Madryn, much of the city has images gen 3 of 2014 and some areas and avenues were updated in 2018 and 2019.

Southern Colombia

On May 16, the Google Street View car was reported to be updating several images of the suburbs of the capital of the Department of Nariño, Pasto.
